The human psyche is a delicate, yet ever-evolving system. The abrupt invasion of trauma can alter this system, transforming its host into unpredicted and multifaceted states. One thing is constant – time. In and through time, It has become second nature to utilize my art practice as a tool to overcome the alteration that trauma has imposed on me. The body of work, Woven Fractures, explores the lifetime of trauma that I have endured and the resilience I have acquired to overcome various challenges. By fabricating works in steel, I create a physical manifestation of the healing process. Through the process of cold forming and usage of soft materials, I am able to create biomorphic forms that depict an almost inhuman level of mental strength.
Within the steel sculptures, I have included an addition of delicate materials, creating an alternative softness that depict a sense of purity. By merging these hard and soft elements, I have reclaimed this purity, and I have in turn reclaimed my life. The works I fabricate stand as I view the body of work I have created as a testament to my resilience.
